Professionals draw on their training and expertise for successful outcomes. All too often, professionals confront external pressures that impede them from doing their jobs to the best of their training and ability.
The elected leaders of the United States have now recognized the need for proactive action to defend professional integrity in the scientific community. In his March 9th, 2009, memorandum on scientific integrity, President Obama focused on the public’s need “to trust the science and scientific process informing public policy decisions.” With this memo, President Obama opened a public discussion on scientific integrity.
Professionals for the Public Interest represents a broad coalition of associations and unions committed to defending professional integrity against external pressures across an array of fields. From science and engineering to human services, the defense of professional integrity resonates with professionals. While the Obama Administration has taken a crucial step in defending professional integrity in the scientific community, we invite professionals from any field to contribute to this developing dialogue.
